RESUMO

This work is a study on the workers clubs and societies in Bom Retiro, a neighborhood in São Paulo city, between 1915 and 1924. It draws attention both to trade union associations and to dancing, recreational, and sport clubs thus perceiving the role these societies might have played in the making of the working classes. Focusing on trade union struggles together with other less renowed types of organization 18 a way of better putting into question the multitude of workers experiences and shedding light on aspects to which, traditionally, historiography does not address
