RESUMO

The present work is the result of a survey on the geographic distribution, wing and enzymatic polymorphism, followed by some "information on the biology of several froghopper species found in Brazilian pastures. Among these species four were analyzed in closer de-tail: Deois schach (Fabr., 1787); Deois flavopicta (Sta1, 1854); Deois sp. e ZuZia entreriana (Berg, 1879). Whi1e Deois sp. was on1y found in the state of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the three other species pre-sented a wide geographic distribution. D. schach was shown to occur from Rio Grande do Sul to the Amazonian region, D. flavopicta from state of Paraná to parã, and Z. entreriana from Santa Catarina to Pará. The four species presented a very high degree of wing polymorphism representing one of the highest amount of genetic variability found in natural population. Among them, Z. entreriana was shown to be the most polymorphic species (25 types) followed by D. flavopicta (15 types), D. schach (9 types) and Deois sp. (7 types). From the 27 distinct geographical popu-lations analysed 26 presented more than one wing pattern their indivi-dua1s. The analysis of enzymatic polymorphism showed, however, a relatively low genetic variability for the 9 analysed loci, while D. schach (Rio de Janeiro population) was the most polymorphic, Z. entreriana was the least one and the two other species presented intermediate values. D.schach and D. flovopicta were polimorphic (based on 1% criterion) for 44% of analysed loci. Based on the eletrophoretic data a tentative dendogram was constructed for the three Deois species. This analysis has shown a greater similarity between D. flavopicta and sp. than between them and D. schach. A direct correlation was observed between the geographical and genetic distances found for the D. schach populations analysed. A great amount of variation was observed in the sex ratio of all the analysed populations, being the males, in general, more frequent than the females.
