RESUMO

The essential oils of leaves of guava tree Psidium guajava L. of different cultivars (Paluma and Pedro Sato) and of the wild plant were analyzed aiming to compare their constituents. The bioactivity of the essential oil âPedro Satoâ was also evaluated on the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda. For the characterization and identification of the oils, Gas Chromatography - Mass were used to identify the constituents of the essential oils. The results showed that the three essential oils analyzed presented a number of substances in common with the predominance of 1,8-cineol. The essential oil âPalumaâ differs from the others due to the greatest concentration of this substance and of α-terpineol and the oil of the wild plant owing to the presence of dl-limonene and of selin-11-en-4-α-ol. The evaluation of the effect of the essential oil âPedro Satoâ was accomplished by means of the immersion of corn leaves in four treatments, two with oil at the concentration of 0.01% and 0.001% in ethanol/water 1:1 and two controls, one with water and the other with ethanol/water. The test with choice chance was performed to evaluate the preference effect of the armyworm and the test without a choice chance with the aim of evaluating mortality and feed consumption. The essential oil of leaves of guava tree âPedro Satoâ was repellent∕deterrent insecticide for the armyworm S. frugiperda at the concentration of 0.01%.
