RESUMO

The expansion of the quasi-market logics within the (re)configuration of school regimes has affected the articulation of the school supply as well as the school demand side. With regard to the latter, market policies have been addressed to widen the margin of parental school choice. With regard to the supply side, and beyond the strength of the dynamics of privatization, these same policies have lead to increase the margins of school autonomy at different levels (curriculum design, personnel management, students' admission...). From a European and critical perspective, in this article I review some of the negative impacts these processes can have in the field of school segregation and inequality, and examine key arguments which contribute to understanding the nature and implications of such impacts.
