RESUMO

The aim of this work was to study the contribution of the catalytic craker unit from Replan-Petrol Refinery of Paulínia -in the atmospheric particulate matter in the area of influence around this source using the receptor model. The catalytic craker units U220 and U220A release large amounts of an alumina and rare earth oxides based catalyst to the atmosphere, contributing to na increase in the concentration of atmospheric particulate matter. Through the process of dry and/or wet deposition, this material reach the aquatic system depositing in the sediment. This work involves the caracterizarion of the catalyst samples emitted from the source. Concentration of the rare earth elements La, Nd, Gd, Pr and Sm was determined ..in the particles of the catalyst. Passive colectors with 0.055 m diameter were used in the evaluation of total deposition of atmospheric particulate matter (APM), by means of gravimetric analysis, yielding values of 36.7 g yearm at 1.6 km from the source and 17.3 g yearm at 12 km fom the source, downwind. Rare earth elements were analysed in APM and used as base to the element tracer method, to estimate the impact of these individual sources. Considering each one of the metals as a tracer, results varied around one order of magnitude. However, when using the median value, a contribution to APM from the emitting source was 7,4 % and 8,2 % at 1.6 km from source and 12 km from source. Sediment profiles from three lakes in the region were collect and analysed. It was observed in the sediment from the Replan, La, Nd and Gd, normally found at level around 35, 35 and 7 mgkg, respectively, increased to 45, 47 and 17 mgkg, suggesting na increase in the recent deposition of these metais due to the craker units.
