RESUMO

The Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy has been proposed as a new metallic biomaterials wich stands out for introducing in its fonnulation three of the four metallic elements of larger biocompatibility (Ti, Nb, Zr, Ta), besides introducing, low elasticity modulus and excellent corrosion resistance. The Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy was obtained from powder metallurgy. Substrates of this alloy were coated with hydroxyapatite (HA) deposited by thermal plasma aspersion aiming to make possible its utilization in dental implants. There were used techniques of characterization for these coated substrates to evaluate effects of hydroxyapatite on the crystalinity and physical, mechanical, electrochemical and biological properties of the coatings. There were obtained good quality coatings with low porosity, low leveI of not fused particles, without crack and with good adhesion. The resistance scratch test showed to be a reproducible test. The alloy coated HA is lightly more resistant to the corrosion that the uncoated alloy. The alloy coated HA and uncoated did not show any type of cytotoxicity for culture osteoblastic cells. The HA coated a lloy did present better adhesion results for culture osteoblastic cells the long time of study in vitro in comparison to the Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy uncoated one
