RESUMO

Oral candidosis is one of the main opportunistic fungal infections amongst immunocompromised individuais, and affects more than 90% of HIV-infected patients. Two hundred and fouryeasts isolatesfrom oral cavities of HIV-infectedand control patients were identified and tested for antifungal resistance. C. albicans corresponded to 57.8% of the isolates while 42.1% were identified as other species, from which 13 were subsequently identified as C. krusei, 9 as C. lusitaniae, and 8 as C. tropicalis. There were also 2 isolates of C. intermedia and 1 of C. norvegensis. Antifungal resistance of the isolatesto amphotericinB (AMPH),fluconazole (FLCZ), miconazole (MCZ) and itraconazole (ITCZ) was measured by microdilution. Out of 204 isolates, 29 of C. albicans and 14 of other species had low susceptibility to FLCZ. Two isolates of C. tropicalis, 5 of C. krusei, and 1 C. norvegensiswere resistant to FLCZ. Five isolates of C. tropicalis, 12 of C. krusei, 4 of C. glabrata, 2 of C. intermedia, and 1 of C. norvegensis were resistant to ITCZ. This study demonstrated increased diversity of Candida species in the oral cavity of HIV-infected patients, associated with the emergence uncommon species, as well as the sensibility of these isolates to antifungal agents.
