Capacidade para o trabalho entre trabalhadores de enfermagem do pronto socorro de um hospital universitario

RESUMO

The demographic and epidemiologic transistion observed in Brazil will propitiate to this country, in a few years, a world-wide position of prominence in relation to the old population. Furthermore, the need of economic adaptation and consequent alterations in brazilian s social security, leads to the workers permanence in the labor market for a larger period of time, influencing, its functional ability. The objective of this study was to evaluate the capacity for the work among health care workers of the Emergency Service of a University Hospital. Fifty four workers had participated of the study (40 women and 14 men), with ages between 23 and 53 years (37,1 year-old average). The Work Ability Index (WAI) was used, instrument developed in Finland, that presented average value 42.0. The correlation of WAI with physical demand, mental demand, estimated work loss by diseases, appreciation of the daily duties, the felling active and alert and of the age with respect to current work ability established significant statistical associations. The most refered diseases with medical diagnosis were the muscle-skeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological. Consider that the prevention of diseases and the promotion of the health in the work are one of the basic aspects in the maintenance of the work ability
