RESUMO
This study aims at discussing the conception of brazilian culture in which the artistic creation of Movimento Armorial is based. It seeks to understand the Armorial proposal for the creation of a brazilian erudite music based on the popular roots of our culture. First of all, Ariano Suassuna´s reflections on brazilian culture were investigated, specially the notion of raça castanha, his ideas about the art created by the inhabitants of northeastern sertão and the characteristics of our racial and cultural formation. Then, in sequence, the proposals and directions for the creation of a kind of concert music that would carry a specifically brazilian mark were discussed.
