RESUMO

This work studies the subject of illumination in realistic image generation with the goal of approaching the problem from the Physical laws envolved in the process, aimming to develop and implement techniques for calculating the illumination in computer generated images. The stochastic ray tracing method, also called distributed ray tracing, simulates the transport of luminous energy by tracing rays in a stochastic fashion. By treating the propagation of light in a probabilistic way, this method was developed with the aim of implementing it for problems of light distribution. It suggests a good solution when dealing with the scattering phenomena that occur in the propagation and reflection of light. We implemented this method as an extension of a traditional ray tracer, to account for the simulation of extended light sources and scattering in specular reflection of rough surfaces. In this way effects of penumbrae and blurred reflection are included in the generation of realistic images
