RESUMO

The objective of this work is to evaluate the current situation of the concrete structure of Central Institute of Sciences (ICC), the larger and older construction of Brasilia University (UnB) Campus, with 720m of length, architectural project by Oscar Niemeyer and structural design by the office of the engineer Sergio Marques de Souza. The study was developed with the characterization of the structure based on technical documents and statement of people directly or indirectly connected to its conception and execution. The research allowed a partial recovery of the building history, emphasizing the most important aspects: construction beginning and conclusion, structural and architectural projects, technical responsibility and general details of construction. The work is part of the research on Pathology, Maintenance and Repair of Structures of the PECC/UnB, aiming to produce a set of documents that contribute for the history of the structural engineering of Brasilia. On the basis of an inspection program from the GDE/UnB method for damage classification and assessment of concrete structures, this work proposed alterations in some of its procedures and elaborated a diagnosis of the physical situation of part of the ICC structure, showing its main damage manifestations. An analysis of the roof structure of ICC was made with computational program SAP/2000 to verify the influence of temperature variations, caused by beams length and nature of the supports. Results shown that, even removing the transversal metallic elements that join these beams significant displacements still occurs in the structure , caused by the platibandas that compose the façade. On the basis of displacements and forces calculated at the supports, new neoprene devices were designed for beam-column connections, which can contribute to correct the displacements problem mentioned. With research results indicating a severe deterioration level for part of the structure examined, a maximum period of six months for the proposed interventions was suggested, aiming to assure building serviceability and security.
