RESUMO

Bromeliads are herbaceous plants, typical of the American continent, with approximately 3,086 species and 56 genera. Western Brazil and the Tepui region of Venezuela are the largest centres of diversity, with the majority of species being represented in Brazil, occurring in all the biomes. The Luís Carlos Jurovsky Tamassia RPPN, managed by Gerdau Açominas, is localized at the base of the Serra do Ouro Branco, in Ouro Branco, in the State of Minas Gerais, and is an ecotone including fragments of Atlantic Forest (seasonal mountain forest), cerrado and campos rupestres. The area has been subject to human interference since the 16th century, including gold mining and more recently agriculture, and frequent fires which have contributed to environmental degradation. Despite its evident floristic diversity, the RPPN lacks studies of its flora. The present work is a floristic study of the Bromeliaceae family, an important indicator group for the status of habitat conservation because of their multiple ecological relationships. The survey was made between March 2006 and January 2008, with a total of 38 fortnightly or monthly visits. 12 species of Bromeliaceae were found, representing three subfamilies and five genera: Aechmea bromeliifolia (Rudge) Baker, A. nudicaulis var. aureorosea (Antoine) L.B. Sm., Billbergia porteana Brongn. ex Beer, Dyckia sp., Dyckia macropoda L.B. Sm., D. saxatilis Mez, Pitcairnia flammea Lindl. var. flammea, Tillandsia gardneri Lindl., T. recurvata (L.) L., T. stricta Sol. ex Ker Gawl., Vriesea minarum L.B. Sm. and V. oligantha (Baker) Mez. Aechmea bromeliifolia was the most representative species in the area, followed by A. nudicaulis. The species of Dyckia had distributions restricted to particular areas. This study provides data for the management of the Luís Carlos Jurovsky Tamassia RPPN, as well as contributing to the floristic knowledge of the area.
