RESUMO

The literature has discussed the relation between the school knowledge and social knowledges. Writers defend the school knowledge in the science disciplines is constituted from the relation with the everyday knowledge and the scientific knowledge. Some specificities of the scientific knowledge that justify its teaching importance are also pointed. This, however, does not mean teaching such knowledge at school in the same way that scientists do in their congress. The didactic transposition, that is, the transformation of the knowledge object in a teaching object is necessary. Besides the didactic transposition process, the disciplination process characterizes as one of the central constituent of school knowledge. In Brazil the science education history has revealed a situation of improvisations, in which the teacher, who has a bad formation, relies on textbooks to prepare his classes. Due its importance in the Brazilian education context the science textbook turned into an object of preoccupation of researches and governmental programs. This work has analyzed Science primary textbooks and Biology secondary textbooks, verifying the distance between them and the reference knowledge. It was considered as knowledge of reference the object of study of the teacher in formation, representing, thus, by the basic bibliography adopted in the Biology Teacher Education course at University of São Paulo. To differ the types of distances found an instrument was created so that the distances were classified in two categories, both decurrents of the didactic transposition. One is the vertical distance, originated of the transposition of the science knowledge to each education level, being necessary to permit the learning to students of different ages. The other type of distance is the horizontal, which is characterized by not to being essential to the students learning in his education level, being decurrent of the laxism in relation to the knowledge of reference. The horizontal distances found in different education levels were compared. Although the fact that not all the horizontal distances lead to epistemological obstacles to students learning, many of those presented by the results of this research present this characteristic. This research found a frequency of horizontal distances in the concepts of primary Science textbooks of 0,27, significantly higher than the frequency found in secondary Biology textbooks, which was of 0,17%. The analysis of image drawings pointed similar results.
