RESUMO
The present work deals with the study of floral phenology/biology and reproduction system of seven species of Convolvulaceae, occurring at Fazenda Catalunha, municipality of Santa Maria da Boa Vista (PE) in the "caatinga" vegetation of the so ealled "sertão Pernambucano". The study was conducted from March 1995 to July 1997. The species considered were: Jacquemontia multiflora (Choisy) Hallier f., Merremia aegyptia (L.) Urb., Ipomoea asarifolia (Ders.) Roem. &Schult., Ipomoea incamata (Vahl) Choisy, Ipomoea bahiensis Willd ex. Roem &Schult., Ipomoea brasiliana (Choisy) Meisn. and Ipomoea martii Meisn. The flowering pattern of all species is the cornucopia type according Gentry c1assification. These seven species treat in this work have cimose inflorescence. The flowers have campanulate (Jacquemontia multiflora) or infundibuliform (Merremia aegyptia and Ipomoea species) corolla type, bright color with nectar guide (mesopetal region), eharacteristics of the melitophily. The antheses of all the studied species occur early morning, between 5:00 and 7:00. The flowers are ephemeral lasting 6 to 9 hours. Nectar production is very scarce, 1 up 4 ?l. Thus the pollen function as an important foraging resource. Anthophoridae, Apidae, Megachilidae, Andrenidae and Halictidae bees were among the main poIlinators of these Convolvulaceae species. These plants species were then considered melitophilous species pollinated mainly by small bees. The Apis mellifera and Diadasina ripa ria were considered the main pollinators of these Convolvulaceae. Interspecific competition for pollinator was not observed. Jacquemontia multiflora and Merremia aegyptia are autogamous whereas the Ipomoea species are xenogamous. The late acting incompatibility system seems to oceur in these plant species. From Ipomoea martii individuals studied in this work, either in natural conditions or manually pollinated, no fruits were successfully obtained. This fact suggests that the plants were in fact clones or that an incompatibility system could acting between the individuals
