RESUMO

In the 1960s the creation of the Museum of Modern Art and the Biennial of Bahia as well as the action of various cultural groups bloomed the cultural movement in Bahia held under the management of Rector Edgar Santos, UFBA. All in the definition of the filmmaker Glauber Rocha united to defeat the proposed single province. However, these dreams of freedom were interrupted in 1968 with the release of AI-5 and therefore the closing of the Second Biennial of Bahia. So in 1991 when the Biennial of Recôncavo was created, a gap happened in the cultural production in Bahia and the two major areas of cultural management in the state and the Teatro Castro Alves - TCA and the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia MAM- were closed for lack of technical working conditions. Then, the Biennale of Recôncavo was created at a time when a small group of artists led the art market in Bahia as well as an international situation of various aesthetics formulations took place weakening the boundaries of thinking and making art. In this perspective, the design of the Biennial is formed in order to reveal new artists, and draw attention to the plurality contemporary aesthetic, questioning the idea of conceptual art as a unique expression of contemporary times, respectively, in awarding its nine editions, sculpture in concrete, painting in acrylic on paper, performance, installation, sculptural object in wood, ceramic installation with high temperature, iron and cotton. Painting on ceramics and enamel, the ninth edition of the Biennale was won by Zé de Rocha with printmaking, painting, ceramic and photography.
