RESUMO

The analysis of the cult of Ayahuasca of the União do Vegetal incorporates metonymic games between ecstasy and discipline, put into play by the discourse of legitimization of the sacrament of the burracheira. Adherence to the group is analyzed through the circulation of goods contained within the reciprocal transaction of ecstasy and associationism, transformed into behavioral discipline. (Re)adjustments within the different levels of membership are effected through the category of "degree", a mediator of symbolic efficacy of the hierarchy that covers the ecstatic experience.
