RESUMO

The research aims to analyze and present the causes of migration that has occurred to Barra do Garças in Mato Grosso, between the 1960 and 1980. It also aims to demonstrate how was the cultural encounter in the city and region at the time surveyed. This work uses the literature to conceptualize the issues: migration, identity, memory and culture. It explains the history before history, that is, presents briefly the early stages of occupation of Barra do Garças region. For an empirical survey is used to query for documents written and image of the time analyzed, as well as the method of oral history, gathering testimonies of ex-migrants. The documentary analysis results show the life stories, that form the cultural amalgam demonstrated through an understanding of the memories of interviewees. Then returns the resulting characteristics of the ethniccultural meeting occurred between the 1960 and 1980 in Barra do Garças, after the intense migration that has occurred there at the time.
