RESUMO

The focus of the present work is the study of the materials used on tupiguarani painted pottery in the state of Minas Gerais. The observed ceramics were collected from the archeological sites of Florestal II (Itueta-MG), Vassoural (Andrelândia-MG) and the Aníbal Mattos collection, all of then part of the Natural History Museum collection of works. The pieces were analyzed using Polarized Light Microscope (PRN), Infrared Spectroscopy, RAMAN, X-Rays Diffraction, and Neutron Activation Analysis performed by technicians from LACICOR and CDTN. By applying these techniques, we intended to analyze the constitution of inks and other ornamental materials as well as find a sequence of layers in the images structure through recreating crossections, and to find out the mineralogical and chemical constitution within samples of different types of clays and ceramics.
