RESUMO

For the lackness of concordance about the time necessary to substitute esthetic restorations after tooth bleaching, the purpose of this paper was to evaluate, by dye penetration, when to substitute composite restorations after use of 10% of peroxide carbamide bleaching. Class V restorations were done at the amelo-dentin/cementum margins, of 100 human fresh teeth and restored with an adhesive system/composite resin. They were randomly distributed into five groups, bleached for three weeks. Group A: the restorations were substituted 21 days after bleaching, Group B: the restorations were substituted 14 days after bleaching, Group C: the restorations were substituted 7 days after bleaching, Group D: the restorations were substituted immediately after bleaching, Group E: the restorations were not substituted after bleaching. The teeth were thermocycled, subjected to 1000 cicles( 5+/-1°C to 55+/-1°C ), followed by dye penetration(methilene blue), for four hours. After that, the especimen~ were secctioned and evaluated by stereomicroscopy. Scores were attributed to enamel and dentin/cementum., The results indicated that, in reference to the enamel and dentin/cementum, it is necessary to wait 21 days after bleaching to substitute the composite restorations
