RESUMO

Abstract: This work addresses the problem of numerical and experimental analysis of comfort control algorithms for air conditioning systems with one manipulated variable. This is a frequent case present in HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems. The aim of HVAC equipment is to promote thermal comfort for building occupants. So, in order to analyze the performance of those systems, an index to measure the thermal comfort level in air conditioned environments should be used and, here, such index will be the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote). Two strategies will be presented and analyzed: i) the first is based on the definition of an external control loop that generates optimal set-point temperature signals for minimizing the PMV. The internal loop is defined by a standard temperature control algorithm; ii) the second is based on the inclusion of a PMV equation in the control loop, acting as a PMV sensor or as a prediction model, therefore, defining a non-linear control loop. Two classes of algorithms are used to verify the performance of the thermal comfort controllers. One is given by PID based control structures and the other one is a type of predictive controllers characterized by presenting terminal constraints. This pro-perty allows deriving stability results for a closed-loop system, which are analyzed in this document. Simulation and real-time results of those control strategies are presented. The real-time results are obtained in instrumented environment, which contains sensor of temperature, relative humidity and air speed and a computer controlled oil heater. The results show the good performance of the developed controllers when the environment is subjected to different climatic conditions. To conclude, the indoor thermal comfort conditions are verified for each control strategy.
