RESUMO

Institutional evaluation was the subject of this dissertation. Its an updated and relevant matter not only in the institutional context, but also in the context of Brazilian superior education. The institutional evaluation is an important strategy in the institutional management. The resulted information from the development of an evaluation process leads to a decision making which allows improvement in the institutional quality. The research problem that has guided to the reflexion in this study, was related to the following questions: What are the contributions resulted from the external and internal evaluation procedures in order to make a decision to improve institutional quality? Trying to elucidate this question, the following objectives were proposed: Identify the contributions of the External and Internal Evaluation information, used for decision making; Establish institutional quality improvement goals based on the pieces of information from External and Enternal Evaluation; Verify the accomplishment of the established goals related to the institutional improvement; Analyse the results of docent work in the teaching ambit based on the perception of the students and on a docent self-evaluation; Contribute with conceptual and methodological principles in the construction of an internal evaluation project. The superior education in Brazil was contextualized in a historic perspective in the theoretic referential of this work. The analysys of the Institutional Evaluation took into consideration the transformations in the educational politics, its principles, its conceptions and the path of the institutional evaluation proposals developed in Brazil. The case study was used for the methodology in the conducting research, trying to emphasise the fenomenum in its particularities without losing track the assessed context. The decision for this methodology shows the preoccupation in developing a qualitative research that has as objective, the dialog with the subjects involved in the investigation process, allowing the analysys of the External and Internal Evaluation. The case study mentions and analyses the complementarity of accomplished Internal and External procedures experienced by the instituituion. The external evaluation contributed with information from the accreditation authorization and recognition of the graduation courses. The analysys of the Internal Evaluation, accomplished from the first functioning semester of the institution on and its improvements throughout six academic semesters, enphasises the increase of the institution through the accomplishement of actions based on the obtained information from the evaluation and meta- evaluation activities. After a critical analysys, the results of the accomplished evaluation were used as the base for decision making, in order to improve the institutional quality. Its importat to say that both Internal and External Evaluation data were equaly important to the institutional development, being the information resulted from them complemetary and undissociable.
