RESUMO

The purpose of this study were to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of four dentinal adhesive systems to dentin and to examine the failure at the dentin/restoration interface of fractured test specimes. From the lingual and facial surfaces of pre-molars, one hundred eigth samples were prepared and adhesives agents/composite were applied. The samples were stored in relative humidity at 37°C for one week prior to be subjected to a shear load at a crosshead speed of 0,5mm/min. Before this test, the specimes were observed in stereo-binocular microscope, to evaluate failure pattern. The mean ‘+ OU –‘ SD of the SBS in MPa were: Prime &Bond 2.0: 24,38 ‘+ OU –‘ 9,05; Scotchbond MP-Plus: 23,93 ‘+ OU –‘ 9,39; AlI Bond 2: 23,17 ‘+ OU –‘ 7,23 and One-Step: 22,51 ‘+ OU –‘ 6,04. There Were no statistically significant difference among mean values. The fractured test specimes were examined in a microscope and great number of failed cohesive in dentin were observed in alI groups investigated. Similar values of shear bond strength were obtained for the hydrophilic dentine bonding systems investigated. Cohesive failures in dentin are considered as a property of current dentin adhesives.
