RESUMO

Schemia and reperfusion can entail several histopathological, biochemical, and inflammatory changes in the intestine. This study is intended to observe the changes which occur in the intestinal epithelium of rats, when submitted to the ischemia of varied time and scheduled reperfusion of 24 hours. For this purpose, the following groups were established: Group I - control, Group II - 10 minutes ischemia, Group III? 20 minutes ischemia, Group IV - 30 minutes ischemia, Group V - 40 minutes ischemia, and Group VI - 60 minutes ischemia. All groups were submitted to the same reperfusion time (24 hours), their intestines being resected for histopathological analysis. For the evaluation of possible differences among the groups previously defmed, the variables length of the villus, width of the villus, and mitotic index were considered, applying the nonparametric test for averages of KRUSKAL- WALLIS, stressing that whenever there was statistical significance, this test was completed by the test of multiple comparisons. This study showed that, from the qualitative point of view, the intestinal epithelium is regenerated when submitted to different ischemia and reperfusion times of 24 hours. It was observed, however, that when analysing the morphometry (quantitative analyses), taking villus length and width as well as mitotic index as parametre, meaningful alterations were detected. Such alterations are characterized by a diminution of the villus length and width as the ischemia time increased. lt should be added that the mitotic index increased after the ischemia start (Group III being meaninful in relation to the control)
