RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in healthy rabbits, the effect of Salmon Calcitonin (Miacalcic) on the maturation process of the new bone formed following a dental implant surgery, using an histometrical analysis. Twenty seven (27) adult New Zealand rabbits were used, and one implant was placed in each animal s femur. Thirteen (13) animais were randomized to provide test group (Salmon Calcitonin - 2Ul/kg) and fourteen (14) provided control (saline solution) group. The animais were sacrificed 6, 8, 12 e 18 weeks afie r the surgical procedures. The histometrical analysis was carried out using an image analysíng system. The analysed parameters were New endosteal and Periosteal bone area, New endosteal and Periosteal bone length, Pre-existing cortical length and Total cortical length. Histometrical analyzis did not show statistical differences between control and -test groups ín 6 and 8 weeks. At 12 weeks group was observed statistical differences favoring the test group, considering New endosteal area and length, and in the control group consídering Pre-existing cortícal length. At 18 weeks group, was observed statistical differences favoring the control group considering some parameters: New endosteal area and length, and Pre-existíng cortical length. At the 18 weeks was observed statistical differences favoring the test group considering Total corticallength. Thus, the use of calcitanin did not demanstrate improvining in the bane healing after implant surgery, in healthy rabbits
