RESUMO

Using experimental data obtained from a spherical particles fluidisation unit in annular geometry, correlations are developed in order to evaluate the particle concentration effect on particle settling velocity in time independent non-Newtonian fluids. Two models are choosen to describe the rheological behavior of the fluids: the Ostwald de Waele model and the Ellis one. Another approach in this research is the retarding effect in the particle settling velocity caused by the annulus walls, known as wall effect. According to the principles of Dimensional Analysis, the wall effect is related to dimensionless groups adequate to describe the phenomenum through the use of non-linear reqression. The present work is applied to the simulation of the cuttings transport ratio in vertical oilwell drilling for several flow rates. Simulation is performed with parameter values used in conventional drilling
