RESUMO

Fragmentation and habitat loss are currently the major factors that threaten biodiversity and are major causes of extinction. One strategy for biodiversity conservation is the creation of ecological corridors which are areas of connectivity between isolated fragments. The municipality of Bragança Paulista is located in the Atlantic Forest Domain, which expanded with the coffee culture, and then the process of industrialization and now with the housing boom. The city is located on an axis of economic importance, is the head of the rivers that form the Cantareira System, part of the buffer zone of the State Parks and Itaberaba- Itapetinga and suffers from the loss and fragmentation of habitat. For these reasons this study aimed to evaluate the remaining forest with the following parameters of the landscape: size, shape and connectivity; propose the creation of ecological corridors and contribute suggestions to the government. The analysis covered the landscape area and a range within a radius of 2 km beyond the administrative boundaries of Bragança Paulista. Of the 747 fragments studied only 2.4% have a size of 100 ha. As to form, 16% of fragments have the ideal medium and finally 14% are connected. The corridors here called Jaguari and Hall Baroness - Iguatemi major corridors that are implemented in the municipality will contribute to the formation of a green belt in the city, will serve to protect water resources of the Jaguari and maintenance of local and regional biodiversity. Besides being a tool for the government in establishing new policies for the municipality.
