RESUMO

In Brazil, there is little technical information about thermal comfort. There are not standards about the theme, and the evaluations are based on rules and procedures developed in foreign countries. In these countries, the thermal environment situation, garments and susceptibility to environmental variable are often different from those in our country. The main objective of this work is to create subsidies for an analysis of Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) from ISO 7730 (1994), for thermal comfort evaluation in Brazilian workplaces. The clothing industry in the city of Amparo, São Paulo State, was chosen to the study. A survey among the workers was carried out through questionnaires, collecting information about thermal sensation, garments and worker?s activities. Dry and wet temperatures, globe temperatures and air speed were also measured, simultaneously to the questionnaires. The software Conforto 2.03 was used to estimate thermal resistance of the clothes, metabolic rates, mean radiant temperature, relative humidity and the correspondent PMV for the set of environmental and personal variables. Calculated values of PMV were compared with the votes for thermal sensation, and a median concordance of results was verified. A probit analysis was also performed, where the probability of occurrence of heat, comfort and cold, was determined, which allowed to identify the temperature of neutrality, defined as the one corresponding to the highest percentage of satisfied people. The operative temperature where the maximum comfort occurred, that is, the temperature of neutrality, was 22.5ºC (corresponding to nearly 84% satisfied people). By using the average values of personal variables (lcl=0,55 clo e M=1,40met) and environmental variables of population (Vair=0,09m/s, RH=53%), it was calculated also the temperature of neutrality through the PMV/PPD model. In this case, the temperature of neutrality was 22.8ºC, corresponding to 5% dissatisfied people. The probit analysis showed nearly 22,5ºC for this temperature, corresponding to 16% dissatisfied
