RESUMO

The aim of this study is to analyze through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the economic, social and environmental issues concerning the production of hydrated ethanol, from cane sugar, in the Unit Group Paranacity St. Therese. The methodological procedures are described below: a literature review, data collection and application of the method Centre for Environmental Science of Leiden University (CML) in 2000, following recommendations of the ISO 14040 series. The analysis of the results shows that the economic and social aspects, the sugarcane industry in Brazil, Parana and Paranacity-PR in the last 20 years has increased the acreage, the quantities of processed sugar cane, sugar and ethanol produced, generating employment and income, contributing to the formation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and tax revenues, foreign exchange and increasing investments in R &D. The environmental aspects of the life cycle of hydrated ethanol produced at the Group Santa Terezinha, the agricultural phase is relatively the greatest potential environmental impact when confronted with the industrial phase of biofuel and transport to the Porto of Paranaguá. The emphasis on the impact categories are related to the categories linked to issues of human toxicity and ecotoxicity in Freshwater, where the relevance of the planting of cane sugar exceeds the contribution of 90%. The agricultural phase of environmental interference not only manifested in the depletion of the Ozone Layer. For the other phases of this lifecycle, the tips of relevance to the fermentation of ethanol and transportation of the product occur, respectively, in the categories of eutrophication and depletion of the Ozone Layer. Ultimately, the results presented in the categories of impact, the conclusion of the study confirmed the hypothesis that the hydrous ethanol may be considered a renewable, but not cleared.
