RESUMO

This is an epidemiological study, descriptive, cross-sectional involving patients with leprosy at diagnosis. The study aimed to describe the socio-demographic, clinical, physical and psychosocial domains of new leprosy cases treated at the Reference Center in Sanitary Dermatology Hospital Eduardo de Menezes - Hospital Foundation of Minas Gerais - FHEMIG, Belo Horizonte from January 2009 to October 2010. We evaluated 56 patients with Impairment Grade (IG) score Eye-Hand-Foot (score EHF), an adapted version of Impairment Summary Form (ISFa), SALSA, Green Pastures Activity, Participation and Stigma Jacoby scales, Discrimination questionnaire and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression. The percentage of 58.9% of new leprosy cases had WHO-IG 1 or 2 at diagnosis and 61%, positivity in EHF score, 46.5% showed some degree of limitation of activity by the SALSA scale and 48.2% by the Green Pastures scale, 30.2% had restriction in social participation, 32.1% had positivity Stigma Jacoby scale, 58.9% in the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression and 25% of new cases have experienced a situation of discrimination. The Impairment Grade with the score EHF should be used in routine care for the physical disability evaluation of patients with leprosy. For patients living in the urban and rural areas, the scale Green Pastures is an alternative to the SALSA scale for assessment of limitations in daily activities of people with leprosy. The scale of participation was associated with the EHF score in the evaluation of social participation of patients with leprosy. Stigma Jacoby and Hamilton Depression Rating scales were not significantly associated with the Impairment Degree and score EHF. It is proposed from this work the implementation of rehabilitation programs and the social reintegration of leprosy patients from the data obtained from the evaluation forms of physical disability and psychosocial disorders
