RESUMO

This study aims to examine the implementation and effectiveness of the Natural Monument of the monoliths of Quixada, conservation area located in the backwoods of Central Ceará. For the analysis of effectiveness was conducted an integrated analysis geoenvironmental, trying to identify the environmental systems and their main strengths and limitations. Was also carried out an analysis of the major forms of use and occupation, trying to integrate these uses within the capabilities and limitations identified above. Confronted the goals of the Unit for conservation and legislation relevant to the analysis of geoenvironmental and integrated forms of use and occupation, trying to show that the unit met the objectives for which it was created, from the point of view of conservation natural resources and the legal point of view. It was observed that the monoliths of Monument Natural Quixadá presents a low degree of effectiveness, since its natural conditions have a strong tendency to instability, with a preponderance of morphogenesis at the expense of pedogenesis. The vegetation is profoundly altered by human actions, and was not observed any action that promotes the recovery of the same. It was found that the historical forms of use and occupation of the region had a profound picture of environmental degradation, and that despite this, such forms of use are still being performed. From a legal standpoint, we see a series and irregularities, such activities without the presence of environmental permits, lack of management plan and issues of land regularization.
