RESUMO

The use of performance monitoring techniques in gas turbine engines for aeronautical and industrial applications is becoming more frequent lately, both to detect abnormal fuel consumption and to assess operational or maintenance problems. The technique developed in this work, very common to gas turbine application, is the direct comparison of measured and calculated parameters with previously known operational data, taken from the manufacturer or from field tests. Reference operational points may be relative to new or overhauled equipments. Deviations measured through the above procedure are submitted to a validation routine, in which instrumentation problems are distinguished from changes in engine performance. Finally, differences related to performance loss are compared with a tipical fault matrix. ln case of compatibility between any deterioration considered in this matrix and the values determined by the program, there is a positive diagnostic of this specific fault mode. To carry out the diagnosis, performance parameters are calculated through the thermodynamic analysis of the working gas, called gas path analysis. The model considered is intended to allow variables evaluation accurate as possible, without need of data not normally available to operator
