RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate of bond-strength of self-etching adhesives on the in enamel and dentine. Forty third-molars were used to produces a flat enamel and dentin surfaces for the adhesion procedures. The occlusal surfaces of teeth were sectioned perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth in order to expose a flat dentin surface. In enamel groups, the teeth had the roots removed and the crowns were sectioned perpendicularly to the long axis for produces two enamel portions. The Samples were ground under running water with 600 grit SiC sandpaper until exposure flat areas for adhesion. The teeth (n=5) were assigned to 5 combinations of adhesive/substrate: G1, Single Bond; G2, One-Up Bond F; G3, Xeno III; G4, Clearfil SE Bond; G5, AdheSE. The same procedures were carried out in enamel and dentine, resulting in 10 experimental groups. The surfaces were restored with TPH Spectrum composite. The samples were then vertically, buccal-lingually and mesio-distal sectioned, to obtain serial picks of bonded specimen with approximately 1 mm thick. Specimens were tested in tension in a Universal Testing Machine (SHIMADZU) at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until of failure. Mean bond strength of specimens were calculated in MPa and analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Dunnetts tests (Alpha=0.05). Statistical significance was established at 5 % of significance. In dentin, the TBS means in MPa were: G1 (36.32), G2 (38.35), G3 (36.94), G4 (32.04), and G5 (21.68). In enamel, the results were: G1 (53.23)a, G2 (17.83)b, G3 (12.32)b, G4 (17.9)b and G5 (13.69)b. Significant statistical differences among adhesives applied in enamel (p <0.0001), however the adhesives in dentin did not present statistical differences (p=0.1501). In contrast, the specimens lost due to pre-testing failures presented statistical differences in dentin, with AdheSE showing the greater average lost. Already enamel, Xeno III and One-Up Bond F demonstrate the greater means of pre-testing failures, with statistical differences of Single Bond. In conclusion, the TBS means were not influenced by self-etchhing adhesive systems in dentin, however in enamel this systems presented lower bond-strength than the conventional adhesive of pre-etching.
