RESUMO

Garbage has dramatically increased in XX century, resulting in the expansion of the demand for areas to place it. In Brazil, one of the alternatives for the garbage destination have been the landfills. This option has consequences, as leachate generation. It is a dark liquid that presents highly soluble substances as result of biological degradation process and the amount produced can increase with water rain. Microbiological and physic&chemical studies in the landfills are highly import ant, as they expose the degradation process that involves the garbage. The present thesis was based on Gramacho landfill and its goal is to typify the microbiological community (BHT, Group Coliform, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus sp. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Clostridium perfringens), physic&chemical parameters (pH, alcalinity, conductivity, chloride, COD, SST, VSS, ammoniacal nitrogen) and observe the efficiency of existing leachate treatment process through measurement and identification of micro&organisms and physic&chemical parameters in leachate both crude and treated. The results show the efficiency of treatment, with high removal taxes of physic&chemical parameters, meeting the levels allowed by legislation in all parameters, except for ammoniacal nitrogen. Microbiological figures present varied removal rate. It would be necessary more samples to determine the structure of microbial community and its growing and inhibition factors.
