RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the tensile bonding strength of repairs in composite resin using an adhesive system, with or without the previous use of silane on the junction of test bodies submitted to traction tests. The test bodies were prepared in a stainless steel device that provides the shape of a dumb-bell. Eighty half-test bodies were manufactured with microhybrid composite resin Esthet-X (Dentsply) in the shape of half dumb-bells. After being stored in distilled water for fifteen days, the repair surfaces were abraded with a diamond bur, conditioned in phosphoric acid at 37% for 30 seconds, rinsed with water and air-dried. After that, the half test bodies were divided into four groups of twenty units, and each group received one type of adhesive system: Group I: one layer of adhesive system Prime&Bond 2.1 (Dentsply); Group II: one layer of silane (Silano – Dentsply) plus one layer of adhesive system; Group III: one layer of silane and Group IV: three layers of silane. The specimens were put back into the metallic device and the repair was carried out with the same composite resin. They were again kept in distilled water for 24 hours and submitted to a traction test in an EMIC universal testing machine, with a loading speed of 0.5 mm/min. The data was analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p<5%). The results obtained were (mean ± standard deviation) for Group I: 28,93±7,68; Group II: 27,87±9,57; Group III: 20,59±5,82 and Group IV: 22,0±6,69, showing that the use of an adhesive system has positive, statistically significant, influence on the restoration tensile bonding strength, compared with using silane alone. The association adhesive/silane didn’t show advantage compared with the use of the adhesive system alone, and the use of three layers of silane didn’t improve the bonding strength on the use of just one layer.
