RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the pullout strength of 1,5 mm and 2,0 mm diameter titanium screws, when they were inserted in bone fragments of rabbits tibias, monocortically and bicortically. Sixty titanium screws were divided into six groups and tested. The groups M1 and E1 had 1.5 mm screws that were monocortically inserted. In the groups M2 and E2 2.0 mm monocortical screws were tested. And in the groups M3 and E3 2.0 mm bicortical screws were tested. Results demonstrated that the groups of monocortical screws did not showed significant differences between them, although they had different designs and diameters. The groups of bicortical screws did not showed significant differences between them too, although they had different designs, but they showed significantly higher strength than the groups of screws that were monocortically inserted.
