RESUMO

Aim: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the smear layer removal from dentin walls using EDTA-T and MTAD, with three types of irrigation needles. Methods: Twenty one single-rooted teeth were prepared using the serial manual technique and distributed randomly according to the chemical substance employed. The samples were divided in two experimental groups and one control group as follow: G1 (n=9) - EDTA -T, G2 (n=9) - MTAD and G3 control (n=3) saline solution. At final irrigation, each group was divided in three subgroups according the needle test as follow: Subgroup A- BD PrecisionGlide, 24G-3/4; Subgroup B- Squirt Brush Professional XS and Subgroup C- ProRinse 28G. The samples were split longitudinally and prepared for analysis in MEV. It was evaluated the middle and apical third using 144 electromicrographs. The images were evaluated by three endodontists using the Fotoscore software. Results: The Kruskal-Wallis test showed that the best results were obtained by subgroup 1B followed by subgroup 2B and 1C with no statistically significant difference. The worst results were obtained by subgroups 2A, 2C and 1A with no statistically significant difference. Conclusions: It was concluded that both chemical substances and irrigation needles influenced in the quality of cleanness and the subgroup 1B represented the most efficient method for smear layer removal.
