RESUMO

One of the biggest environmental problems faced nowadays by the Water Treatment Stations is the disposal of waste generated in the treatment process steps. The main one, the sludge retained in decanters, has been a reason of qualitative and quantitative characterizing studies, in order to find a suitable solution for your treatment and final destination. The total solids, suspended and dissolved, are, with the chemicals formed in the coagulation and flocculation stages, the responsible for generation and characterization of this sludge. However, the analysis of solids is not a routine in the WTSs, being common the analysis of turbidity and color, because these parameters correlate directly with the appearance of the water that is a significant consumer demand and the patterns of drinking. Thus, weve researched the correlation between solid, in its various forms, present in raw water and in sludge, with the turbidity and color values, to allow the characterization of the sludge based on these parameters, historically found in the operation records of the WTSs. To develop this study, weve worked with the coagulants Aluminum Sulfate and Ferric Chloride in bench tests, especially with the Jar Test. The waters object of the study were the ones of the WTS of Funil in the district of Cachoeira do Campo, city of Ouro Preto, responsible for the supply of this and the districts of Amarantina, Santo Antônio do Leite and region and the WTS of Mata do Seminário, in the district of Passagem de Mariana and responsible for the most part of the public supply of Mariana -MG. The expressions obtained were compared with other from the literature and showed that this correlation depends on the characteristics of the raw water and the coagulant used.
