RESUMO

he purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of the plaque disclosing in the staining of two glass-ionomer / composite resin hybrid materiaIs, by spectrophotometric method. The restorative materiaIs used were: Vitremer, Variglass and the basic fuhcsine solution at 0.5 % as the disclosing agent. Ninety specimens were randomly assigned in 3 equal groups and immersed in plaque disclosing during 1 minute. In order to determine the amount of dye uptake, solutions were obtained with specimens immersion in absolute a1cohol for 48 hours. The solutions were put in the spectrophotometer for absorbance reading and the equipment wavelengh was adjusted to 550 nanometers. The result of dye concentration was given in micrograms dye per millimeter of solution. These results were analysed by Kruskal Wallis Test and Multiple Comparisions Test, showing statistical differences (a = 0.01 %) among the treatments. The polyacid-modified composite resin hybrid (Variglass) presented higher dye uptake than the resin modified glass-ionomer hybrid (Vitremer). The resin-modified glass-. lOnomer (Vitremer) did not show significant staining. However, when the finish component (Finishing Gloss) was used the dye uptake was significant1y higher
