RESUMO

ABSTRACT: The Alegria Rural Settlement Plan is a result of Land Reform politics of the INCRA, located in the town of Pium, Tocantins, in order to use unproductive lands for rural settlement development. The soil of the Alegria PA is generally shallow or very shallow (Haplic Inceptisols, Quartzipsamments Entisols), with low fertility and degraded by the management practices applied before the settlement. The deeper soil occurs alongside the São João stream (Latossolic Inceptisoils, Cambic Latosols and hidromorphic soil) and they have environmental restrictions on the agricultural use. The high stony surface horizon limits the use of the land, even with a high level of technological management. The land presents severe restrictions on agricultural and livestock use, with the necessity of the environmental recovery of the degraded areas.
