RESUMO

With the increased production of ethanol and cachaÃa in Brazil, also increases the production of vinasse, main residue of the industrialization of sugarcane. One way of its utilization is its disposal in soil as liquid fertilizer. The vinasse can change the physical attributes of soil and its compressive behavior and the resistance of soil aggregates to splash. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to quantify the effect of vinasse on the compressive behavior and physical attributes, and to evaluate the application of vinasse on splash of particles of a Red-Yellow Latosol (Oxisol). The vinasse was obtained from a still of craft. Undisturbed and disturbed soil samples were collected at depths of 0 to 3 cm, and 60 to 63 cm. Disturbed soil samples were used for physical and chemical characterization of soil. Part of undisturbed soil samples was saturated by capillarity with vinasse and the other part with distilled water for 48 hours for testing the compressibility and resistance of aggregates to splash by using simulated rainfall. The results indicate that the capacity of load support of soil for both depths with and without application to vinasse was similar. The limits of consistency were not significantly different. In the Proctor Normal test the samples which received vinasse, regardless of the depth, had lower values of compaction optimum moisture, resulting in economy of water and higher soil resistance. For splash, the subsurface samples at field capacity provided more resistance and lesser splash in the presence of vinasse.
