RESUMO

This work investigated, in a sample of 823 high school students from public schools, the relationships among different types of attribution of responsibility for the current Brazilian indigenous peoples situation, the levels of identification with the Brazilian nation and prejudice. The results indicate that the non-indigenous peoples prejudice against indigenous people is high and there is a positive correlation between holding the indigenous responsible for their own situation and prejudice. On the other hand, there is a negative correlation between holding the Brazilian people responsible, the identification with the Brazilian nation and prejudice. These results are discussed emphasizing this works social relevance and its implications to the relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous people in Brazil.
