Atividade antimicrobiana in vitro do extrato hidroalcoÃlico de alecrim (Rosmarinus officinalis Linn.) sobre bactÃrias orais planctÃnicas

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to investigate antimicrobial activity in vitro of the hydro-alcoholic extract of Rosmarinus officinalis Linn. (rosemary) against oral planktonic bacteria. Rosemary extract and its dilutions varied from 1/2 up to 1/512, chlroxidine, and Streptococcus mitis ATCC 98811, Streptococcus sanguinis ATCC 10556 Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175, Streptococcus sobrinus ATCC 27609 and Lactobacillus casei ATCC 7469 were utilized. Firstly, MIC was evaluated in a solid medium, and the adherence minimum inhibitory concentration in sucrose at 5%. The assay was conducted in duplicate, and chlroxidine was control solution. MIC varied from 66,5 mg/mL up to 266 mg/mL and adherence minimum inhibitory concentration from 16 mg/mL up to 33,2 mg/mL. Hydro-alcoholic extract of rosemary had shown antimicrobial action against Streptococcus sanguinis ATCC 10556, Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175, Streptococcus sobrinus ATCC 27609 and Lactobacillus casei ATCC 7469. It had not shown antimicrobial action against Streptococcus mitis ATCC 98811. It had not show adherence inhibitory effect against Streptococcus sanguinis ATCC 10556. However, Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 and Lactobacillus casei ATCC 7469 had shown the most sensibily bacteria to extract
