RESUMO

The Cordia curassavica (Boraginaceae), lmown popularly as "erva baleeira", is used in foIk medicine for treatment of several inflammatory processes and as healing agent. The scope of this work was to evaluate the antiedematogenic activity; the antinociceptive activity, and antiproliferative of crude as extracts from Cordia curassavica well as the artemetin enriched fraction. The petroleum ether, dichloromethane, etanol crude extracts and artemetin fraction were evaluated on paw edema model induced by carrageenin. The crude dich1oromethane showed significant antiedematogenic activity, but artemetin enriched fraction extract did not show activity. The petroleum ether crude extract did not produce significant paw edema reduction. Therefore the dich1oromethane crude extract was chosen to continue with this study. The antinociceptive activity was demonstraded enployed hot plate and acetic acid-induced abdominal constriction writing model. The dich1omethane extract also showed antinociceptive activity by inhibition of acetic acid-induced writhing in mice. Nevertheless in hot plate model this extract did not reveal activity, suggesting a straight relationship of analgesic activity with inflammatory process inhibition . The dich1oromethane crude extract showed antiedematogenic activity in experimental models with paw edema induced by, bradykinin and naja naja, as well ear edema induced by croton oil. This extract inhibited too edema formation by carragenin induced in adrenalectomizated rats, rejecting the anti-inflamatory activity by exc1usively endogens corticoids. The antiproliferative activity was examinated in human cell culture. The fraction F4 e F6 showed antiproliferative activity related to concentration, showing citotoxicity in the highest concentration tested. Based on these results, we suggest that the anti-inflamatory activity the extracts is due that interference in produced prostanoides
