Atendimento clínico de pacientes na disciplina de odontologia social e preventiva no curso de odontologia das Faculdades Integradas Aparício Carvalho (FIMCA): caracterização do serviço entre 2001-2004

RESUMO

The aim of the present study is to characterize the population of patients attended in the course of Social and Preventive Dentistry in the Dentistry School of the Faculdades Integradas Aparício Carvalho (FIMCA), Porto Velho, during the period comprised between 2001 and 2004. A retrospective study was performed. Socioeconomic status, habits of oral hygiene, mean value of DMFT, percentage of visualized dental biofilm and attendance were investigated. Two hundred and sixty one records were analized. The majority of the patients belonged to socioeconomic status D and E, the DMFT at the age of 12 years old was 4,05, whereas between 35 and 44 years old the DMFT was 16,62. In adittion, it was observed that the mean percentages of visualized dental biofilm in the four consultations were 45%, 34% 28% and 25% respectively.The attendance to the program was 55% at the second consultation and decreasing at the fourth consultation to 29%. The results of the present study showed the the public oral health attention for the studied population is still very scarse. The program attendance was lower in the last consultation which demostrates that the program has to be reformulated considering the local reality.
