RESUMO

Nowadays, the didactic book is the most used educational material by the teachers and many times it is the unique fountain of scientific knowledge to students, therefore its content is very important to analyze the educational situation in Brazil. The objective of this study was to analyze the nutrition issues contained on the biology books of High School, comparing the quality of information front the current scientific concepts, and propose necessary modifications for the individual formation, aiming the healthy eating habits. This was a transversal descriptive study in which were assessed, of structured form, all the biology books recommended for High School by Ministry of Education. The structured assessment consisted of one instrument in which the variables could be classified as sufficient, insufficient or absent. All didactic books introduced nutrition information; however, the majority was insufficient to promote conscientious eating choices and/or change of habits. There was lack of information in some didactic books: hipovitaminosis A and folic acid deficiency (100%), iron deficiency anemia (89%), obesity, iodine deficiency and food pyramid (78%). The insertion of the nutritional education in the scholar curriculum and the revision for adequacy of contents about nutrition on the didactic books are supporting measures to prevent health problems of future adults.
