RESUMO

The assesment of urban arborization in the cities helps in the planning and administration of the urban green areas, in search of better life conditions to the city dwellers. In Brasília, urban arborization was recorded through the census of the trees, DBH ≥5 cm, in 39 superquadras (SQs) ten of which were planted with trees in the sixties, seventies, and eighties and nine areas in the nineties were chosen, aiming to assess the SQs floristic composition and similarity and the use of native species along this period. A total of 15.187 trees were sampled , separated in 45 botanical families, 126 genera and 162 species. The most frequently species were Mangifera indica L. (Mangueira), Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub. (Cambuí), Syzygium jambolanum (Lam.) DC.(Jambolão), Sapindus saponaria L. (Saboneteira), Ficus benjamina L. (Ficus), Caesalpinia peltophoroides Benth.(Sibipiruna), Spatodea campanulata Beauv. (Espatódea), Persea americana Mill. (Abacateiro), Pterogyne nitens Tul. (Amendoim bravo) e Tabebuia ipê Ex Griseb. (Ipê rosa). Floristic relationship among the decades were assessed, by the UPGMA classification, available within the FITOPAC package, was carried out using Sørensen index. This study revealed patterns in Brasílias arborization along decades since floristic similarities were progressively lower within this period. A tendency on increasing the use of native species was not clear. It is quite probable that the floristic differences detected are product of seeds and saplings availability in NOVACAP nursery areas rather than an explicit plan for Brasília urban arborization.
