RESUMO

This descritive-prospective paper focuses the epidemiological aspects of Tegumentar Leishmaniases (TL) in the municipility of Paraibano Maranhão (Brazil) between 2002 and 2004, period in witch there was decrease in the detection coefficient for 100.000 inhabitants. Data were both obtained from National Foundation of Health or directly from local Municipal Secretary of Health. The results showed that the incidence of the disease decreased along the study period, in which the notified cases were represented mainly by individuals of the sex masculine, brown, farmers, in the age group above 30 years and with low education level. Besides, majority of the cases were originated from the urban zone and the number of autochthonous cases was superior in relation to the imported cases. Regarding to the study months, it is observed that starting from September the number of detected cases increased, decreasing abruptly in July. This pattern follows the temperature picks observed and to the lower detected precipitations. In the municipality of study, an epidemiological profile has been observed, in the which residents originating from of the rural zone looking for better conditions in the urban center constitute a group of interest in relation to Tegumentar Leishmaniasis, since your precarious conditions of life predispose them to the risk factors, being these the principal focus of action of the groups of the Family Health Program.
