RESUMO

Despite the potential that the ornamental cherry tree offers for the urban forestation, studies about propagation methods of the species are scarce. Due to this fact, the objectives of the work were to evaluate the vegetative propagation of this species, searching for the best type of grafting and forcing method in the percentage of tissue union of the grafts and to find out the effect of different dilution methods and concentrations of indolbutyric acid (IBA) in the rooting of semi woody stakes of ornamental cherry tree Prunus serrulata Lindl. For this reason, two experiments were made in the Department of Horticulture at the Federal University of Lavras - UFLA. The first experiment was made up of grafting of Prunus serrulata Lindl. upon rootstock Prunus Persica cv. Okinawa in December. The used experiment design was in split plot in a 2x4+1 factorial scheme with two types of budding (1 - inverted T budding in and 2 â patch budding); four forcing types (1 - testifies, 2 - bending of the branch, 3 â its partial cut off and bending and 4 - cut to 10 cm of the grafted yolk) and one additional treatment: (cleft grafting) in plot and three periods of evaluations (45, 60 and 90 days) in sub-plot with four replications and four plants per plot. According to the results, it was concluded that there wasnât a significant difference for the forcing characteristic, and the best propagation method for the ornamental cherry tree ornamental was cleft grafting. The second experiment refers to the rooting of cuttings, which were collected in April, with 12 cm of length. The design was in randomized blocks in 3x2 factorial scheme (concentrations: 0, 1000 and 2000 mg.L-1 of IBA and 2 dilution methods: powder or liquid) with 4 replications and 6 plants per plot. The evaluations were made after 90 days. It was observed neither influences of concentrations nor vehicle of application of IBA in the percentage of cuttings with calluses, sprouts number and percentage of sprouted stakes characteristics. The highest rooting percentage, number of roots and length of the largest root took place in the concentration of 1000 mg.L-1 applied through liquid in comparison with the other treatments. However, it is still considered low, having the needy of new researches.
