RESUMO
The finality of this dissertation was to investigate the functions, images and significates of Exu in the umbanda religion. The developing of this theme demonstrate that his significations works in one elevated level, that shows the sistematization of the umbandas theology and doctrine in his more importants streams of religious thinking. From this point of view, one comparative model of the Exus image in his African origins and his transformations in the Brazilian ground was maked, searching the sincretism and sistematization of this theology and doctrine, in the level iconographic and functional.
