RESUMO

The aim of this research was to analyze social representations of gender of the Physical Education female and male students, on 7Â and 8a grade of elementary Brazilian Schools. In that way, we tried to problematize the interpretations of those subjects concerning to masculine and feminine in the class situations, relating to the teaching contents, in the way as those subjects are disposed in the class physical space and when they share works and activities. For that, we searched a theoretical reference emphasizing two perspectives: gender, proposed by Guacira Louro and Joan Scott, and social representations, according to Serge Moscovici s approach. To base the discussions regarding the Physical Education, we tried to establish a dialogue between those references and the Critical-Surpassing approach, created by Coletivo de Autores (Authors Collective). The research s methodological course was initiated with the analysis of the great group (observations), going through small groups (free association), to the individual analysis (interviews). The obtained results revealed a representation about the masculinity, femininity, identity and prejudice in a polarized way, phenomenon that was configured as the central nucleus of the representations of the subjects. The students also oscillated between the recognition of those issues as "natural" or "cultural." That phenomenon was configured as the outlying elements of the social representations of the subjects. Relating to the gender representations revealed by the group, we pointed the need of enlargement of the discussions inside the Critical-Surpassing Physical Education, in order to articulate their theoretical-methodological presuppositions to the gender subjects, glimpsing a emancipating and plural Physical Education
